I personally have not seen the movie Crash, but I read a quick review on Wikipedia.org and a brief synopsis of the movie explained that all the characters depicted in the movie are all involved in a 36 hour time frame and all of them are connected by instances of shootings, auto accidents, and car-jackings. Everyone in the movie has their character revealed through series of violent and graphic incidents. Several characters reveal quality traits and values while others do not. I viewed several other movie posters to identify any similarities of the core atmosphere of the movie based on the color scheme, and all of the movies have shaded out blurry backgrounds. The main color focus is emphasized on the characters depicted on the poster. I would assume this is due to the focus of the characters and their lives and emotions. The shaded out backgrounds emphasizes that nothing really matters in their lives except their own personal demons, sufferings, and emotions. Several of the posters I looked at depicted two individuals embracing each other very passionately. This may be linked to the concept that outside true love, nothing seems relevant or seems to matter. Their own lives and relationships are so valued to them, that anything outside their own lives seems neither pertinent nor significant to anything else in their lives.
I think that Anthony’s comments about the movie poster are great. First Anthony mentions that the blurry background symbolizes the thoughts of the characters and the lack of interest, so to speak, of the surroundings around them. I think that this is a very good idea of how the blur relates to the thoughts of the characters and the move itself, however have seeing the movie, I think that the blur represents the confusion of what’s going on around the characters. The movie is full of intense scenes that show the characters true lives and all the events leading to the end of the movie that the characters go through end up revealing the true values of the characters. As I said, I think that the confusion and hectic situations are represented by the blur. The main colors in the post are the blue and the dark orange-yellowish glow on the peoples face. The contrast between the two colors help the faces standout obviously more than anything on the poster, which draws focus to the characters and their emotional facial expressions. This movie is packed with many different emotions, everything from happiness and sadness to frustration and sexual abuse. With all the emotions that are drawn out throughout the movie, the contrast between colors and the blue help represent what viewers are about to see. I strongly recommend that everyone WATCH THIS MOVIE.
To me this movie is also about assumptions, sterotypes, and choices, and people rising to the occasion (or not). Good point about the blurry background in terms of highlighting the characters and the individuality of their experiences as well as the blue color which implies ambiguity here (to me). What did you all think about the font...?
