  1. I like what I did, I usually end up with crap when I make stuff like this but I'm really satisfied with what I accomplished. I can't really identify any contrast with the ad, when I was designing the ad I didn't have any rhetoric or contrast in mind because my whole focus was on making an ad that had a statement. I didn't include any contrast really, the statement of the ad is pretty straight forward, "come to the zoo and see the reptile house" is the main message I aimed to convey and I think I achieved my purpose. Contrast however, can help enforce an argument within the text. It can provide an contrary point to an ad. So if used in an argumentative ad it can provide a consequence of what would happen if you do not adhere to the guidelines.

  2. The type in this ad is very basic. We chose to just do a black and white ad. The font is just as basic as the color choice. The font is in all caps, but I believe it works in this case because it is in a converstaion bubble. The snake is saying, "Come sssseee the new reptile exhibit at the santa fe zoo!" I think the all caps makes the font stick out from the background and draws the audiences eye in more than it would if the phrase was written in lowercase letters. There really isnt much contrast between fonts in the ad. However, I don't think this ad needs a lot of contrast in the font because the background is so busy. If there was much more contrast in the fonts, the ad would be way too overpowering and too busy to focus on one thing. I think the basic fonts are a good choice to go with the full background of the snake. There is contrast in the colors of the fonts in the bottom left corner. The altering colors of black and white draw attention and make the information easier to read. I think the color contrast works here.

  3. This specific newspaper advertisement for our client, the color is simply black and white. We choose to post the advertisement in black and white to not only give it the newspaper article “look” but to show that it is still successfully capable of creating contrast to receive attention. For our color photo, the colors were all shades of the secondary color orange and tertiary color brown. We used those colors to create a desert theme to compliment the reptile and the new reptile exhibit at the Santa Fe Zoo. For this advertisement and the colors being plain black and white there is still noticeably different shades of blacks and whites. The reason we choose to have it black and white is simply to give it that newspaper “look”, as I side before. Our group felt that the advertisement’s contrast with just the black and white was successful enough as the color photo was to be interesting and able to get that attention needed.A big contrast worthy of mention is between the snakes head and the black surrounding it. Most of the picture, all but the head of the snake, is out of focus which also helps contrast between the focused and unfocused. Our snake is the important attention grabbing element in the ad so these contrasts work to our advantage.

  4. The audience for this ad is technically anyone looking through the newspaper. I would expect an ad like this to be posted in Santa Fe or something like the albuquerque journal. However, the more newspapers it is advertised in the more possible turnout for the actual imaginary zoo. Our major selling point is the reptile house as mentioned in our flyer from group blog #3. Obviously snakes stand out and promote the reptile house. This ad should appeal to the audience in many ways. It is simple yet it stands out because viewers attention goes straight to the hissing snake in the middle of the ad, then people are interested. It is all about grabbing the viewers attention. Once their attention is on the ad then they will continue to read it. The ad is simple and will definitely attract an audience and many viewers.
