Hey everyone. First of all sorry about the late post I have been super busy today and just had time to finish it now. This picture above is the only way I could get the flyer on the blog, our actual flyer I submitted is formatted vertically and looks much better.
We used many design elements for this flyer in order to try and blend in new mexico culture. First, the large rattlesnake as the background is the main image that not only draws viewers in but represents new mexico as it should be, a desert. The Santa Fe Zoo font is has a brown border and the fill is a sand gradient. This also supports the desert, new mexico, sandy environment theme. The colors are meant to go well with eachother and represent santa fe at the same time. Also, the proximity and spacing is very important for this flyer. As one can see all of the images/text boxes etc. are out towards the edge of the flyer. This is made so the center is easily viewed and supposed to stand out. We want our viewers to see the large rattlesnake face first, and then move on to the rest of the flyer. After all, the center is the most important. All together I think the flyer is exactly what we wanted. It is a powerful, desert like, image that really represents the culture of not only santa fe but new mexico as well.
Job well done by Jordan on the final flyer. For our advertisement is for the Santa Fe Zoo. Principles of graphic design our flyers touch on are repetition, contrast and alignment. In our advertisement we have the previous group’s logo at the bottom of the flyer. The color of the original logo works very well to our advantage. The majority of our color scheme is browns and tans and a great portion of the original logo is a blue with some greenish text. The difference in colors allows the two to contrast off each other leaving the logo to stand out which is important so viewers can see where the flyer is coming from. As for alignment, the text around the flyer and the logo in the corner fall around the outside of the picture kind of like a boarder and creates a visual track for the eyes to follow around leaving the eyes to touch on the information on the flyer. For repetition, the color is consistent throughout our flyer and establishes a desert theme. The main focus we wanted to advertise is the new reptile exhibit so the rattlesnake in the background is an attention grabber. The colors of text complement the rattlesnake background. Along with the rattlesnake background, the little explosion boarder with “new reptile house” is in the flyer to help inform viewers of the new exhibit. Clear enough. For important text to include we had the name of the zoo of course and the basic information such as ticket prices, hours of operation, phone number and a website for additional information. With nothing more than the basic information needed about the zoo, viewers attention will be kept long enough to read a simple sentence and a few words. It also is short enough to read while passing by it which will essentially have a greater amount of visitors.
I love this flyer! I think this flyer could be posted and distributed in any number of different places. I think a good place to put it would be at the airport or train station. These are tourist spots with people who are looking to have a good time while they are in New Mexico. Another good place to put the flyer would be in hotels. The people here are also looking to be entertained while they are on vacation or whatnot. Maybe another place to put it could be at amusement parks or an aquarium or places like that where little kids visit often and have fun. Maybe even making this flyer into a billboard or something along the highway might be good for attracting people to come. I dont think anyone would ignore this flyer. The huge snake in the background draws so much attention its crazy. :)
Sorry about the lateness of my post, whatever. I really like how our group put together the flyer with the distinct detail. The picture of the snake draws the reader's first glance and supports the argument, "there is a new reptile house at the zoo, go to it." It provides support because it has an interesting picture of a snake which motivates the reader to investigate the new addition at the Santa Fe zoo. The audience that this ad is directed at is anyone who would like to see the reptile house at the zoo because it uses a very big picture of a snake to stimulate the reader's interest to see more reptiles. Other ads of the Santa Fe zoo may have just a simple flyer format with pictures of random animals because it is telling the reader to just visit the zoo. Our ad on the other hand urges people who have been to the zoo but have not seen the reptile house. So to sum it up in a nutshell, the audience is directed to people who have not seen the reptile house at the Santa Fe zoo.
