This image could be a bit difficult for our readers to understand right away, however I think that this logo is perfect for the company ABC Chinese food. We rely heavily on ethos for this logo simply because of the fact that viewers have to know who Michael Jackson is or they will not understand this ad. I believe that we did a good job of showing Michael Jackson and our viewers should understand this. The quote "easy as 1-2-3" ensures that readers will recognize the sentence from the Jackson 5 song and therefore recognize the person in the logo. Our image is simple and not too cluttered and definitely not too conscise. It gets straight to the point and clearly represents what ABC Chinese stands for. Cheap, quick, and convenient, just like counting to 3. The entire logo as a whole effictively shows the readers what ABC Chinese is all about with a small twist of comedy. I think our ad ensures that readers completely understand what the company is all about.
I am satisfied with what our group made because it is such a simplistic memorable ad. Clearly, whoever doesn't know who Michael Jackson is must have been on the moon for the past 30 years. He is to popular and to covered by the media and he is showered for his bizarre lifestyle. This image portrays MJ as a young kid when he was in the Jackson 5 and it portrays his innocence and provokes the viewer's emotions by seeing a cute kid with an amazing voice and strikes the reader as intriguing. To some older viewers, this picture may remind them of when they may have heard the song for the first time and remind them of happy times. It is a very capturing image because MJ is so famous in American pop culture and this picture captures all of his innocence and purity. The phrase is self explainable, haha it is too perfect.
There are multiple elements, some more obvious than others, that make this a successful logo. The immediate attention grabber is the cut out of the Jackson 5’s young Michael Jackson head on the sketched body. When our group first started to brainstorm we all agreed that we would want something funny to do since something funny is a lot more memorable than just ‘another’ logo. We got the idea with the name ABC Chinese to use Jackson 5’s “ABC” song since it is a pretty familiar song and would be pretty easy to understand. The song’s lyrics are “ABC, easy as 1,2,3. Are simple as do re mi…” Using this song for the logo symbolizes the convenience and simplicity of eating at ABC Chinese food. So using this song, Michael Jackson had to be the strongest visual element in logo. There are two different types of medium used for contrast. His head is an actual photography shot and the rest of the logo is a drawing; the photography completely different compared to the pencil sketch which makes it really stand out. Other important elements in the photo are the Chinese rice hat and the cartoon bubble with the lyrics of ABC. The rice hat is also a cut out from a photo which again helps the image stand out. The rice hat also helps set up a theme for the logo; Chinese for the Chinese restaurant. The cartoon bubble is an attention grabber as well. Looking at the piece, eyes are drawn to the bubble and then the text is acknowledged. The text is the part of the logo that is getting the perks out to the audience. ABC Chinese, is easy as “1,2,3”.
ABC Chinese food is a company that is known for being easy, cheap, and quick. Therefore the company has an ethos that appeals to a wide variety of people. I know I love restaurants that are cheap especially, and quick and convenient doesnt hurt at all either. This restaurant to me seems like it is almost a fast food restaurant, but not quite. Like you could go inside and sit down if you wanted, but could also grab it on the way home from work to take home to your family. I have never been to or heard of this restaurant, so all of this is just an educated guess from reading the description. Our group specifically wanted to convey that ABC Chinese food is convenient and easy and cheap. Although Michael Jackson has no relation to Chinese food, we created an argument visually that relates him to the ABC Chinese food restaurant. By bringing in a figure that is really recognizable in society today, people will remember the logo more and remember that ABC Chinese is "Easy as 1,2,3." I think it is a really good idea to incorporate Michael Jackson into the logo. I know if I saw this logo, I would so want to eat at ABC Chinese food. I think too that this logo appeals to a younger more college student type of audience. Especially because ABC Chinese food is around the UNM area. I think young adults and middle aged people are more likely to relate to this image and to respond well to it.
